#2. Black Massacres
A final for my Black Massacres history class - the seven figures of this mural pays tribute to men and women of the original West and Central African tribes from who were enslaved in New York. This includes the Wolof (senegal, gambia, mauritania), the Abron/Bono/Brong (Côte D'ivoire, Ghana, Burkina Faso), the Bakongo/Esikongo /Kongo (Atlantic Coast of Central Africa, Democratic Republic Of Congo, Republic of Congo, and Angola), and the Mbundu (mainly from Angola). Using Procreate for the iPad, I projected the Mural on a building on the corner of Wall Street and Water Street where an old slave market used to run, as a means to represent the enslaved in a light of empowerment where they were once dehumanised.
